The first fruit which the Holy Spirit produces in us, is love. It is through God’s love that all other gifts of the Spirit are perfected. The fruits of the Spirit speaks of Christlike characters produced in us as we yield to the Holy Spirit.

When our attitude towards others is selfish and we are not willing to change, even when corrected, then we’re not practicing God’s love.

“It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly……”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:5‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

It is very important that we allow the Holy Spirit to purge us, so that we may be conformed to the image of Christ. It is easy to walk in love when the fruits of the Spirit are dominating us.

“But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things, there is no law [that can bring a charge].”

Jesus Who was teaching on bad character said: “a brother who is unwilling to change their attitude, let him be an infidel.” Because not walking in love destroys the fellowship and unity among the brethren.

“If your brother wrongs you, go and show him his fault, between you and him privately. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother. But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two others, so that every word may be confirmed and upheld by the testimony of two or three witnesses. If he pays no attention to them [refusing to listen and obey], tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a pagan and a tax collector. [Lev. 19:17; Deut. 19:15.]”

Remember, wrong attitude towards others breaks the unity among the brethren in Christ and discourages the man in the world from embracing the love of God or come to the saving knowledge of Christ.

We should watch over our character and make sure the fruits of the Spirit are dominating us.
