“And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.”
‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭4:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The word blessed in this text in Hebrew is Barak which means to kneel or surrender to a higher power to speak over your life or to change your circumstances. And enlarge in this text in Hebrew is Rabah. Which means to give or give me. The first thing that was a hindrance in Jabez life was not the name he had or what people say but his mental attitude. He had to change the way He things by surrendering himself to God. We as believers must know that change does not begin in our circumstances but change starts in our heart and mind. In other words change will always manifest when we change the way we view God in our circumstances and ourselves . Jabez did not change His name for his circumstances to change but he change his mental attitude.

Many have limited God in their lives due to the fact that they focus on their challenges instead of focusing their faith on what God says about their situation. Until we focus our faith on God’s Word our mental attitude towards our circumstances will not change. For this reason we must take offensive action towards our mind by :

1) Renewing it with God’s Word

“If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:21-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

2) Take aggressive action against satanic thoughts by taking them captive.

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:3-5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

3) Focus Your faith on the promises of God.

“For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes [answer] in Him [Christ]. For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him [in His Person and by His agency] to the glory of God.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:20‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

God’s Word has absolute authority and brings to nought anything that is contrary to His Word or promises for our lives. The Word of God is stable, true and the precious blood of Jesus has purchased the promises of God for us. Having this is mind we know God is compelled to do what He has promised us in His Word as we count on His faithfulness in Jesus name.

Jabez prevailed by first of all changing His mental attitude towards God and how he view himself and circumstances.

Let’s pray together:

Heavenly Father let the eyes of mine understanding be enlightened by Your Spirit, so that I will see things the way you see them and see myself the way you see me in Jesus name. Amen
