-Food for thought day 88-

• Luke 7:2-9
• Ephesians 2:8-9

Man will always magnify good works but God always respond to faith, not good works.

“Now a centurion had a bond servant who was held in honor and highly valued by him, who was sick and at the point of death. And when the centurion heard of Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to Him, requesting Him to come and make his bond servant well. And when they reached Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying, He is worthy that You should do this for him, For he loves our nation and he built us our synagogue [at his own expense]. And Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent [some] friends to Him, saying, Lord, do not trouble [Yourself], for I am not sufficiently worthy to have You come under my roof; Neither did I consider myself worthy to come to You. But [just] speak a word, and my servant boy will be healed. For I also am a man [daily] subject to authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my bond servant, Do this, and he does it. Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled at him, and He turned and said to the crowd that followed Him, I tell you, not even in [all] Israel have I found such great faith [as this]. And when the messengers who had been sent returned to the house, they found the bond servant who had been ill quite well again.” Luke‬ ‭7:2-10‬ ‭AMPC

Notice in verse 9 how Jesus marveled at the faith of the centurion and not of his good deeds. It was the faith of the centurion that brought about sudden restoration of his servant and not his good deeds.

His good deeds connected him to Jesus however his faith in Christ gave birth to the restoration of his servant.

This is the same reason why we are not saved by good deeds. For we are saved by grace through faith, and not of ourselves.

Our needs will not move God but our faith in God concerning our needs will bring a turn around in our circumstances.

God wants us to boost our confidence or faith in Him and not good works. Good works is a product of our faith in Him.

“For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law’s demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.]” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8-9‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

The salvation we experience in Christ is a product of God’s faith given to us by grace.

We should never glory or take credit for good works but rather glory in the One who gave us the power and ability to demonstrate His goodness.

Many blessings in Jesus’ Name.
