Love does not bring division or enmity among the brethren. We must learn to attack the spirit of offence that brings division among believers.

“Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespasses against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.”

That is why we must be ever ready to let go before and after anything evil tries to get at us. The purpose of this spirit of offence is to cause division by breaking the bond of unity among the brethren.

“Put on, therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man has a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

Anyone who takes pleasure in causing division among the brethren silently opens him or herself up to Satan. For it’s the same way Satan beguiled Eve and her husband to forfeit their authority and position in God Genesis 3:1-8). This caused them to be spiritually separated from God.

It’s, for this reason, we must fight against the spirit of offence, division and enmity among the brethren. Thus allowing brotherly love to dominate us.

Remember: God’s love does not give birth to enmity but unity and peace.
