So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.” 1 Kings 17:10-15 KJV

The lady of our main tekst received a turnaround in her situation, as she followed the instructions of God Almighty through His prophet. Some people are where they are in life, because of disobedience.

Today’s devotional is self-examination and realign yourself to what the Lord God Almighty has been telling you. Maybe the instruction He (God) gave to you seems so silly in your own understanding or seems difficult. Just do it. God alone knows why He bypasses everyone just to come to you.

There was famine in the land and many were going through challenges, but God Almighty chose the woman of Zarepheth to change her situation. So stop saying: “why me?” instead of asking that question, recognise God Almighty has favored you, by giving you an instruction for your own miracle.

Obedience attracts God’s favour in our lives.

And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord ? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” 1 Samuel 15:22 KJV

Let’s pray together:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word. Help me to obey You, even when I do not understand in Jesus Christ mighty Name, Amen.
