In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith (by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises.” Hebrews 6:12 AMP

The Word of God makes us know that the promises of God are realised in our life through faith and patience. Now patience is a fruit of our spirit.

But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.” 1 Peter 3:4 AMP

Most of the time we don’t receive from God Almighty because we do things in a haste, step into doing things prematurely or walk out of the promises of God, because we think is taking too long. The reason for all this is the work of our flesh and also the inability of our mind to grasp the things of God. The mind does not know how to wait without training.

Praying in the Spirit trains our minds and flesh to be patient and brings us to the place of stillness.

For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.” 1 Corinthians 14:14 KJV

For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.” Isaiah 28:11-12 KJV

So impatience comes as a result of our mind and flesh dominating our spirit. Praying in the spirit brings rest, refreshing and calmness to our mind and flesh. The promises of God are only manifested in our lives when we learn to exercise patience.

Let’s pray together:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word. Help me exercise patience in all I do, even as I practice praying in the spirit in Jesus Christ mighty name. Amen.
