Jabez was honorable above his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez [sorrow maker], saying, Because I bore him in pain. Jabez cried to the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and You would keep me from evil so it might not hurt me! And God granted his request.” ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭4:9-10‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

The word honourable in this text means in Hebrew “kabad” which means to be heavy (burdensome,severe,dull). This was the case of Jabez. His situation was worser than his brethren and his own mother had to put a label on him. Nobody believed in Jabez even his own siblings.

I also believe due to his situation he tried all in his power to change it and at the end he surrendered to God for help. Also, for his situation to change he has to change his mental attitude towards himself and the way he views God.

But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].” ‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:6‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Jabez situation could only change when he choose to trust, rely and depend on God alone to change his story from the looser he is into the champions God call him to be.

It does not matter whatever situation we maybe facing in our lives,God is able to change it.  We don’t need to wait until our back is at the wall. We can always invite God unto our situation and trust Him to turn it around for our good .

Today, we should change our mental attitude towards  our circumstances and the way we view God. God Almighty wants to show himself strong in our situation.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him. You have done foolishly in this; therefore, from now on you shall have wars.” ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭16:9‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

When we look critically at the prayer Jabez prayed. The change that happened in his life, started when his mental attitude change. Nobody could do that for Jabez except Jabez himself.

God is always and ever ready to show Himself strong in our lives as long as we let Him.
