I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another.” John 13: 34 AMP

If there is a new commandment then there should be an old one. For us to practice the new we must understand what the old one said. When our Lord Jesus Christ made this statement, He was looking back to Leviticus 19:18 (pls also read for the context Matt. 5:43-46 and Rom. 12:17, 19).

You shall not take revenge or bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.” Leviticus 19:18 KJV

This commandment was given by God Almighty to the children of Israel. Its emphasis was ‘love your neighbour as yourself’. If you notice it says ‘as yourself’. Anything that has to do with self is selfish.

What if you are done loving yourself? How are you going to express love to someone else? Love of God is not self-seeking. That’s why Jesus said ‘as I have loved you’.

Today is not about you, it is about giving the love you have received from Jesus Christ our Lord to someone else. Go ahead and demonstrate God’s love in Jesus Name.

It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].” 1 Corinthians 13:5 AMP

Let’s pray together:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word. Help me by Your Spirit to share your Love to someone else today in Jesus Christ mighty name. Amen
