– True Happiness –

Today we read:

“Blessed [spiritually prosperous, happy, to be admired] are the poor in spirit [those devoid of spiritual arrogance, those who regard themselves as insignificant], for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [both now and forever].”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:3‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:3‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:3‬ ‭GNT‬‬

The poor in the spirit are those who know they’re spiritually helpless. When someone is spiritually helpless they don’t go about making their point, but they allow God to be the point. They have completely surrendered their agenda to God and allow God’s agenda to take preeminence and dominance in their lives. The crave for God’s Word and desire it above all other things in their life.

Therefore, they have come to a place like apostle Paul who said:

“But all those things that I might count as profit I now reckon as loss for Christ’s sake. Not only those things; I reckon everything as complete loss for the sake of what is so much more valuable, the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have thrown everything away; I consider it all as mere garbage, so that I may gain Christ and be completely united with him. I no longer have a righteousness of my own, the kind that is gained by obeying the Law. I now have the righteousness that is given through faith in Christ, the righteousness that comes from God and is based on faith. All I want is to know Christ and to experience the power of his resurrection, to share in his sufferings and become like him in his death,”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:7-10‬ ‭GNT‬‬

Paul had to be poor in the spirit for him to take hold of the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Therefore taking hold of the Kingdom of Heaven. This can’t happen without humility. Humility is the key to the Kingdom of Heaven.

Apostle Peter admonishes us to humble ourselves so that God will exalt us.

“Likewise, you younger men [of lesser rank and experience], be subject to your elders [seek their counsel]; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another [tie on the servant’s apron], for God is opposed to the proud [the disdainful, the presumptuous, and He defeats them], but He gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time,”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5:5-6‬ ‭AMP‬‬

The poor in the spirit are the ones who are being lifted by God Himself.

If you want to be qualified to experience the fullness of heavenly blessings, you ought to humble yourself, for the Word of God tells you to do so. Humility is a decision that you need to make daily in order to take hold of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Remember, the poor in spirit are conscious of the Kingdom of Heaven and they are not earthly bound.

True happiness is born by being poor in the spirit.

Let’s pray:
Help me Heavenly Father to always function in the spirit of humility in Jesus Name, Amen.
