And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them. And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].” Acts 2:3-4 AMP

Most of the time we find ourselves being controlled or influenced by our soul instead of by our spirit. Especially in trying times or in making decisions. Sometimes people are so hasty in making decisions so they end up making wrong decisions.

The truth of the matter is, true faith in God Almighty is never in a hurry, irrespective of how we feel or what we face in life.

Therefore, thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tested Stone, a precious Cornerstone of sure foundation; he who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone) will not be ashamed or give way or hasten away [in sudden panic]. [Ps. 118:22; Matt. 21:42; Acts 4:11; Rom. 9:33; Eph. 2:20; I Pet. 2:4-6.]” Isaiah 28:16 AMP

Now, the reason for all this hasty or emotional decisions is because we most of the time can’t really distinguish what is happening in our spirit, soul and body. So most of the time, because we don’t know the difference, we end up acting soulishly or ruled by our feelings. And sometimes we even conclude that is the leadings of the Holy Spirit or say God Almighty said it.

The Bible says: God is a Spirit. The Bible did not say God is a feeling or a soul or an emotion. We know the mind of God from our spirit.

God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).” John 4:24 AMP

That’s why every time we pray in the spirit with the help of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit helps us to bring separation of what is happening in our spirit, soul and body because we are practicing God’s Word and He (The Holy Spirit) helps us not to be soulishly ruled and body ruled but to be spirit ruled.

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 AMP

Our spirit takes charge over our soul and body as we pray in the spirit with the help of the Holy Spirit and helps us to stay spiritually alert and make right decisions. This enables us not to act soulishly and end up making carnal decisions which brings sadness to our lives and make our lives bitter instead of sweet.

For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit within me] prays, but my mind is unproductive [it bears no fruit and helps nobody].” 1 Corinthians 14:14 AMP

Praying in the spirit is one of the ways we separate what is going on in our spirit, soul and body. So practicing praying in the spirit will help us make right decisions that benefit us now in this life and that which is to come.

Let’s pray together;

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word. Help me through your Holy Spirit not to make emotional decision as I practice praying in the spirit in Jesus Christ mighty name. Amen.
