-Food for thought day 226-

• Luke 18:10-14
• Ephesians 2:8-9

A self-righteous person is always right in his own sight. He doesn’t understand he is only righteous with God’s righteousness and not by his good deeds that will make him righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8-9). Therefore, he is not supposed to be right in his own sight, but in God’s sight.

For example, the Word of God says: “Two men went up into the temple [enclosure] to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee took his stand ostentatiously and began to pray thus before and with himself: God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of men–extortioners (robbers), swindlers [unrighteous in heart and life], adulterers–or even like this tax collector here. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I gain. But the tax collector, [merely] standing at a distance, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but kept striking his breast, saying, O God, be favourable (be gracious, be merciful) to me, the especially wicked sinner that I am! I tell you, this man went down to his home justified (forgiven and made upright and in right standing with God), rather than the other man; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭18:10-14‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

The tax collector went home justified because he could see that his life was nothing without God’s help. He found his righteousness in God, not in his deeds. On the contrary, the Pharisee depended on his own ability to be justified and ended up being condemned.

It’s the same as walking in love. As a believer in Christ, the way we handle people should be born out of humility and not out of pride. For love is not prideful, but so compassionate and it will never make anyone feel uncomfortable or cause pain to anyone (Romans 13:10). There are times that we have to come to the level of people’s faith, for love sake so that they won’t stumble.

Remember: love is never prideful, it’s tender and flows with humility.

Be loving and refuse to be righteous in your own sight.

Many blessings in Jesus’ Name.
