Fasting and prayer which strengthens our faith in God is not a substitute for not walking in love. As a matter of fact, fasting and prayer without justice and mercy to the oppressed in anyway is just ritualistic.

Whenever we have the opportunity to show kindness, mercy and justice to the oppressed, we should not substitute it with prayer and fasting for that is not love but selfishness.

In the book of Zechariah, the people were being oppressed daily by the people in authority and by their own, yet they called for fasting and prayer. God addressed them by saying: “you’re interested in religion, but My interest is the wellbeing of people.”

“Thus has the Lord of hosts spoken: Execute true judgment and show mercy and kindness and tender compassion, every man to his brother;”

People are everything to God. And walking in love towards one another and towards unbelievers is a cure to the human heart and the soul. People will not always remember what you said, but they will remember how you treated them in their trying time.

“What is the use (profit), my brethren, for anyone to profess to have faith if he has no [good] works [to show for it]? Can [such] faith save [his soul]? If a brother or sister is poorly clad and lacks food for each day, And one of you says to him, Good-bye! Keep [yourself] warm and well fed, without giving him the necessities for the body, what good does that do?”

The works demonstrated is a token of the love we have for one another and for those who don’t know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The fuel for our faith is love.

“For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated and energized and expressed and working through love.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:6‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Remember, faith works through love.

It’s time for you to know the hindrance to your faith in God; functioning without love.
