All of you must keep awake (give strict attention, be cautious and active) and watch and pray, that you may not come into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41 AMP

As we read Matthew 26:39-41, Jesus Christ our Lord was agonizing in Gethsemane on our behalf and was about to face the cross for us. He was about to give His life as a ransom for us that we might have life and have it abundantly through Him. Yet, in that hour of His biggest battle, though He told His disciples how He was feeling at the moment and He asked them to watch with Him for one hour, they all fell asleep.

The disciples entered into the temptation of the spirit of slumber. The spirit of slumber gets us to fall a prey to temptation, due to the fact that we are not alert spiritually and causes you to be clueless of the hour and season that we live. Its principal duty is to try to keep us in dark. All these are the works of satan.

That’s why when we pray in the Spirit, The Holy Spirit helps us through our spirit to enlighten our darkness and that of our brothers and sisters who are ignorant of many vital information of what God wrought in Christ Jesus on our behalf.

For You cause my lamp to be lighted and to shine; the Lord my God illumines my darkness.” Psalms 18:28 AMP

Apostle Paul understood this truth in Christ. That’s why he prayed for us through the Holy Spirit that the eyes of our understanding be enlightened.

[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones),…….” Ephesians 1:17-18 AMP

Let’s pray together:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word. I pray today that You enlighten my darkness that I will be spiritually alarm in the time and season we live in Jesus Christ mighty name, Amen.
