James 4-5

-Food for thought 2020 day 42-

Scripture of meditation:
• Galatians 5:16

When you don’t live the life of the Spirit, you are practising the law of Moses. As a believer in Christ, you should know that there was nothing wrong with the law, but it was weak through the flesh. In other words, people that kept the law did it out of fear and self-effort and yet they were not able to keep it because of their unregenerate nature.

That is why the first thing that happened to you was a change of nature, without it you can’t serve God. This change of nature is what makes you born again, which is a spiritual experience (John 3:3-7; 2 Corinthians 5:17). The reason you got born again is that you function from your new man in Christ and not from your past life that is dead and buried (Romans 6:1-11).

Therefore, Paul said by the Holy Spirit:

“THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit. [John 3:18.] For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death. For God has done what the Law could not do, [its power] being weakened by the flesh [the entire nature of man without the Holy Spirit]. Sending His own Son in the guise of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, [God] condemned sin in the flesh [subdued, overcame, deprived it of its power over all who accept that sacrifice], [Lev. 7:37.]”

For this reason, you can’t live in your liberty in Christ as long as you function from a carnal standpoint.

“[That is] because the mind of the flesh [with its carnal thoughts and purposes] is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God’s Law; indeed it cannot.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:7‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Your liberty in Christ is only experienced by the flesh when you choose to walk in the Spirit by living the life of the Spirit.

“But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).”

So when God’s Word says:

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The only way to be steadfast in your freedom in Christ is walking and living in the Spirit and not the flesh. You do this by practising God’s Word.

That is why Paul said by the Holy Spirit:

“For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Remember: God’s Word is spiritual and not carnal. So serve Him with your spirit and not your flesh.

Be fervent in your spirit (and not the flesh), serving the Lord Jesus Christ!
